Malcolm McBay
It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Malcolm McBay on Wednesday the 4th May 2011
Malcom was one of Spotlight Musical Theatre Group’s great audience stalwarts who attended as many shows as he could.
Many of you will know of him as Dawn’s McBay’s Father – Dawn has been a member of Spotlight for many many years.
Known to many as “Dawn’s Dad”  he always supported the group and always talked us up to lots of people and prospective audience. He even found his way behind a video camera (albeit somewhat reluctantly) for Steevie one Pantomime
“I’ve never done anything like this before Steevie – but I’m sure I will be able to video the ceiling as well as anyone!”
And to be fair – the end results were pretty good with very few shots of the ceiling (but some of the floor).
“Your trousers were acting as well as you were!”
His comments to one member of the group that his wide trousers were acting as well as he was was not meant as a criticism – in fact it was a compliment – and something he would bring up at regular intervals for next 12 years when meeting him in Tesco during the weekly shop.
“Prof. Horatio Dangle – if you please”
When asked what credit he wished on a video he had done – “Professor Horatio Dangle” is was what he decided to be most appropriate to appear – in fact to Alan Brown and Stephen Day – “Professor Dangle” was what popped into their minds on meeting Malcom – which often meant they forgot was his real name was.
His lively banter and pithy comments and sometimes offbeat humour will be remembered for a long time to come by many. He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with the family at this time.
