LOCHABER SHOWSTOPPERS HAVE THE “RHYTHM OF LIFE”
There is great excitement in the cast as rehearsals intensify and opening night of Lochaber Showstoppers’ production of “Sweet Charity” (12th, 13th, 14th May) gets closer! This wonderfully bright and funny show (by Neil Simon, Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields) is set in the early 60’s so “beehives”, false eyelashes, short skirts and spaced out hippies are a-plenty! The fantastic musical numbers pack a punch too with the timeless tunes of “Rhythm of Life”, “Big Spender” and “If My Friends Could See Me Now”, to name but a few, being played by the fantastic Showstoppers’ twenty-two piece orchestra!
The female cast members are very lucky this year to have Joyce Fraser on board and her team, from the Hair Department of Lochaber College, to help with the hair styles of the era. “For us, having the expertise of Joyce and her girls is the icing on the cake!”, says Samantha Wilson, Committee Member. “We work so very hard to put on an amazing show and we are so lucky to have the continued support of so many people who give their time for free, the orchestra, the local businesses who advertise in our programme and the audience who come out to see us in all weathers. Thank you all so very much”.
The show is produced and presented by the amazingly talented and creative team of Diane Foster, Director, Susan Munro, Musical Director, Jasmine Adams, Choreographer, Dave Foster, Set Designer/Construction, Donnie Munro, Set Construction and the guys and gals of the Production Team, with a strong cast of some well known and not so well known faces.
“This show has been a joy to direct not least because of the commitment and many talents of both the cast and all those involved behind the scenes“, says Diane Foster, Director, “With a story that’s both funny and poignant we hope our audiences will have as much fun watching it as we have had putting it togetherâ€.
“Fun, laughs, good times: that’s what’s on offer from this musical which has allowed this commendable cast to flex not only their acting muscles, but promenade their singing and dancing talents to boot,” says Music Director Susan Munro.
Jasmine Adams, Choreographer, says, “I appreciate all the extra work the cast have had to put in because of dance numbers and movement required“.
“Sweet Charity” is a touching and amusing look at the the misadventures of Charity Hope Valentine, a dance hall hostess, who just wants to be loved but always ends up giving her heart and her dreams to the wrong man! But then she meets Oscar…..
