NAME: Kevin Baker
CHARACTER IN THE SHOW: Max Bialystock
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU AREN’T ON STAGE? I spend a lot of time saying, ‘I don’t think I’ll do another show.’I’m basically a pretty lazy and boring person. I work, I eat, I sleep. Mostly I like sitting round the dinner table with my family. Sometimes I try to be funny.I’m very fond of holidays and I’d like to travel lots. One day….
WHAT IS YOUR BACK-GROUND IN PERFORMING? Long.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST ROLE ON STAGE? I sang ‘There’s a hole in my bucket’ at St Ninian’s Church May Festival in Hull. 1961.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SONG IN THE PRODUCERS? Probably ‘I wanna be a producer’ – I’m very fond of girls wearing nothing but pearls…
WHAT PART OF THE SHOW ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO? Finishing ‘Betrayed’. If I’m still breathing I know I’m in the home straight!
WHAT IS YOUR ALL-TIME FAVOURITE MUSICAL? Godspell. I saw it on tour in about 1976 and it was terrific.I then directed it in 1981 while I was at college. It has many, many happy memories for me, and it’s a great piece of theatre.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM MUSICAL ROLE? I’ve been lucky. I’ve done Barnum in ‘Barnum’ and Fagin in ‘Oliver’ and Bill in ‘Me and my Girl’, and Nathan Detroit in ‘Guys and Dolls’. And now Max in ‘The Producers’. What’s left for a short, fat, balding middle aged man to do?I don’t think I’ll do another show!

This amateur production is presented by arrangement with JOSEF WEINBERGER LTD on behalf of MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL of NEW YORK
