About

Hi there! You may have found this website and wonder… What is this all about? Well we will try and explain.

Spotlight Musical Theatre Group is an amateur theatre group based in Oban, Argyll, Scotland. The reason for our existence? To put on Musical Theatre for the Oban and surrounding area. We provide Oban Entertainment by doing Musicals!

We are a registered charity and our existence is a bit hand to mouth – Make money to put on a show – do the show – and if we are lucky just about break even and then repeat!

We have a written constitution, an elected committee, chairperson, treasurer and secretary.

Our rehearsals are usually at Park Primary School in Dunolie where you will find us on Tuesday and Thursday nights (except school holidays). In fact if you are thinking of dropping in to visit it is probably better to e-mail webmaster@spotlightmtg.co.uk to make sure that we are going to be there!

We put our shows on in the Corran Halls Oban on the Esplanade. Here we have a full stage – Hall that can cope with 400 + people, dressing rooms, technicians and lighting technicians.

In addition to our main shows every other year we put on an Oban Pantomime at Christmas. The other year Benderloch and North Connell Drama Club put on their pantomime. These pantomimes are great fun to do and hopefully – great fun for people to watch!

We endeavor to put on the best show that we can! Although an amateur company we put our hearts and soul into every production.

We are always looking for fresh blood! We want to be training up producers and directors. Build up the instruments in our Orchestra. Give our set constructor a bit of a hand! Get young people involved in the theatre! If you feel its something you want to do why not contact us! We need you!!!!

In Summary

Musical Shows In Oban are what we are about!
Oban Pantomimes we do every two years
We rehearse at Park School
We perform at Corran Halls Oban
We always need new members

We are in essence Oban Theatre or at least Oban Amateur Theatre – You could say we are also Argyll Theatre or Argyll Amateur Theatre.? Oban Drama has quite a lot to do with us as well because we do a lot of that – We are an Oban Musical group and an Argyll Musical Group.

Do we own the Oban Theatre? We wish – it would be lovely – The only real theatre in Oban is the Corran Halls where we put on our Oban Musicals – the next one being “Crazy for You” in Oban in 2009.

Musicals in Oban some people call “shows” or “doing a show” – We do Oban Shows or Oban Entertainment – its so difficult to quantify because so many people call it different things – You might say that we do Oban Plays or Plays in Oban (Or even Argyll Plays) – though really they are Oban Musical Plays or Argyll Musical Plays? (Given that our constitution is specific about music I should mention it here…) – A lot of people say “What Play are you doing in Oban Next” – and then I have to explain what we are all about! Hey ho!
