Happy Birthday to us!

On Tuesday 14th March 1961 The Oban Operatic Society was founded at an open public meeting in Raasay Lodge, Esplanade, Oban. The group put on a wide variety of operettas with “The Gondoliers” being the first to take to the stage. Over the years it morphed to become OOpS and then Spotlight Musical Theatre Group. Although the style of music has changed, the passion for musical theatre that was integral to the founding company very much remains. To mark this auspicious occasion, we are putting together an audio recording of anecdotes, extracts of songs and memories. It will be available later in the year. We plan to overlay the audio with images of cast photos, posters etc.

This is where WE NEED YOU. We are looking for members and former members to contact us with memories and photo memorabilia. In addition, if you are interested in recording an audio snippet about your favourite show/memory, or even singing an extract of one of the earlier shows (Gilbert & Sullivan etc) then that would be amazing. You can record yourself or we can help with that. Just get in touch and we can work out the best way to get your recordings and photos.

In these times where we can’t perform on stage, we can keep the theatre alive through this celebration.
